Update from the Spring Conference Swing

Springtime – specifically March through May – seems to be the time of year for conferences and other customer touch points, and 2017 has been no exception.

This past April marked the tenth time EASI•Consult® had a presence at the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology Conference. The conference, held this year from April 27-29 in Orlando, Florida, drew more than 4,600 attendees.

This year was also the second year that EASI•Consult hosted a booth. Our booth was well-attended and it gave us a chance to introduce exhibit-goers to the new 360o Burke Learning Agility Survey (360o Burke LAS), our assessment offerings and our various pre-employment tests. A wonderful highlight this year was having Dr. Warner Burke on hand to personally answer potential questions about the Burke Learning Agility Inventory (Burke LAI).

On the second evening of the four-day conference, EASI hosted a reception at Shula’s Restaurant. This gathering always provides our virtual staff the chance to spend some time together face-to-face. It is also an opportunity for us to greet many of our customers and, in some instances, introduce different clients who may be pursuing similar solutions.

And we like to invite potential new customers and/or leaders of other organizations with whom we are working. At Shula’s this year, we spent some quality time with Bob and Wendy Hogan. Bob is the founder and developer of the Hogan Personality Inventory, used by companies around the world to assess personality. We have been a customer of Hogan for many years and, based on our conversation at SIOP, expect to announce some important collaborations in the near future.

Dave Hoff, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Leadership Development of EASI•Consult and EASI’s Vice President of Business Development and Assessment Solutions, Dr. Rebekah Cardenas, recently returned from the Talent Management Alliance (TMA) Conference, held May 16-17 in Chicago.

This was the second year EASI•Consult participated in TMA. Those who have attended both TMA and SIOP know the two conferences are about as different as night and day. But we at EASI believe they are both important tools for brand awareness, particularly as we launch the new 360o Burke LAS  .

TMA only has about 200 attendees, but about half of the folks are heads of talent management for their companies. As with SIOP, EASI hosts a booth at TMA. We are one of fewer than 10 total booths but the small numbers give vendors numerous opportunities to have intimate, small-group conversations.

EASI•Consult has a banner, focused on the Burke products, that reads: BURKE – 6 years of research and 9 dimensions. The six years of research refers to the time it took Dr. Burke and his doctoral students to develop and research the questions that have resulted in such high validity and reliability. At any conference EASI attends, there are always a few people who see the banner and remark, “Oh, the test is finished.”  EASI•Consult confirms that the Burke LAI is now on the market and then answers any questions from those interested inquirers.

The final part of the “Spring Swing” involved Hoff, never one to miss out on a chance to talk about EASI•Consult.  He and his wife were taking a long-planned cruise around Australia, and in talks with Fiona Stewart, Managing Director at LTA Consulting in Melbourne, discussed the idea of simply having a drink together when Dave’s cruise ship stopped in Melbourne.

But a professional conversation over drinks soon developed into Hoff leading a two-hour showcase session on the Burke LAI in Melbourne for over a dozen LTA staff and customers. Attendees showed a lot of interest in learning agility and a longer-term interest in a two-day in-person certification program on the Burke suite of products.  Discussions are ongoing to get this scheduled in the coming months.

Almost a week after that session, a smaller group attended a similar presentation in April in Sydney. In addition to understanding how Burke was defining and measuring learning agility, attendees expressed a keen interest in how it could be applied to their customers. There was also a good discussion about research possibilities in Australia, possibilities that continue to be explored.

One of the clear outcomes of these conferences and events is the need for a more extensive certification program for both the Burke LAI Self Report and the 360o Burke LAS. We expect to have a program ready to pilot sometime this summer.
